Hindi Arohan (1983)
Arohan, directed by Shyam Benegal, was released on January 30, 1983. This powerful drama stars Om Puri as Hari Mondal, a poor farmer in the village of Giripur in Birbhum district, Bengal. The movie also features Victor Banerjee as Jotdar Bibhutibhushan Ganguly, Pankaj Kapur as the village teacher, and Sreela Majumdar as Panchi, along with a supporting cast that includes Noni Ganguly, Khokha Mukherji, Gita Sen, Jayant Kripalani, Rajen Tarafder, Dipti Bhatt, and Amrish Puri.
The film is set during the mid-1960s amidst the Naxalbari uprising, focusing on the plight of oppressed farmers and their struggles against exploitative landlords. Om Puri’s portrayal of Hari Mondal earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1982. The film itself won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. The music for Arohan was composed by Purna Das Baul.
