Hindi Bhumika: The Role (1977)

Bhumika is an Indian movie directed by Shyam Benegal and Produced by Lalit M. Bijlani and Freni Variava. The movie features Smita Patil, Amol Palekar, Anant Nag, Naseeruddin Shah, and Amrish Puri in lead roles. The movie is broadly based on the Marathi-language memoirs, Sangtye Aika of the well-known Marathi stage and screen actress of the 1940s Hansa Wadkar, who led a flamboyant and unconventional life, and focuses on an individual’s search for identity and self-fulfillment. Smita Patil gives a strong performance of transforming from a vivacious teenager to a wiser but deeply wounded middle-aged woman. All music is composed by Vanraj Bhatia. Lyrics are written by Vasant Dev and Majrooh Sultanpuri. The movie songs are sung by Saraswati Rane, Meena Fatharpekar, Firoz Dastur, Preeti Sagar, Chandru Aatma, and Bhupinder Singh. It was released on 11 November 1977.
