Hindi Kismat (1968)
Kismat is a 1968 Indian Hindi-language film directed by Manmohan Desai, produced by Kamal Mehra, and released under the banner of Pride of Asia Films. The film stars Biswajeet as Vicky, Babita as Roma, Helen as Nancy, Murad as the Commissioner of Police, and several other notable actors including M.B. Shetty, Bhagwan Sinha, and Hiralal.
The movie follows the story of Vicky, a singer and guitar player at a local nightclub, who becomes entangled in a dangerous plot involving a microdot that contains critical information about a series of bomb blasts. The microdot is hidden in his guitar by an informant, making him the target of the main antagonist, Scorpion, and his henchmen. Throughout the film, Vicky and Roma, a runaway from a strict household, develop a close relationship while evading the villain’s men. The film features various memorable scenes, including the famous drag performance by Biswajeet in the song “Kajra Mohabbat Wala.” The soundtrack, composed by O.P. Nayyar, was highly successful and includes popular songs such as “Aao Huzoor Tumko” sung by Asha Bhosle, “Kajra Mohabbat Wala” sung by Asha Bhosle and Shamshad Begum, and “Aankhon Mein Qayamat Ke Kajal” sung by Mahendra Kapoor. This film marked the last collaboration between Shamshad Begum and O.P. Nayyar. Kismat received mixed reviews at the box office, being declared an average grosser with a net earning of ₹70,00,000 and a gross of ₹1,40,00,000. Despite its box office performance, the music of the film was well-received and remains popular.
