Baba Sehgal, born Harjeet Singh Sehgal on November 23, 1965, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, is celebrated as the first Indian rapper. He rose to fame in the early 1990s, bringing a new talent to the Indian music scene. His journey in music began after graduating with a B.Tech, becoming a hit on MTV India with his unique rap style. Baba Sehgal’s biggest album, “Thanda Thanda Pani,” released in 1992, sold 5 million cassettes, marking a record in Indian rap music. Some of his most famous songs include “Thanda Thanda Pani,” “Manjula,” and “Dil Dhadke.” As a music director, he was involved in projects like the movie “Dance Party,” which featured the song “Kapurthala se aaya hoon, tere liye laaya hoon, Orange kurta peela pajama.” Baba Sehgal has not only made his mark in music but also on television as the presenter of “Superhit Muqabla,” and has been a popular stage performer.
