Chitragupta Shrivastava (16 November 1917 – 14 January 1991) was born in Gopalganj, Bihar and he left a well-known name on Hindi cinema with his music direction, especially during the 1950s and 1960s. Starting his career with the movie “Aabroo” in 1943, he quickly made a name for himself with iconic films like “Bhabhi” (1957) and “Faulad” (1963). Chitragupta was popular and well-known for his ability to mix classical and folk music. Throughout his career, he gained musical scores for over 150 films and worked together with singers such as Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar. Some of Chitragupta’s most celebrated songs include “Chal Ud Ja Re Panchhi” from “Bhabhi” and “Teri Duniya Se Hoke Majboor Chala” from “Pavitra Papi” (1970). Another gem, “Agar Sun Le To Ek Naghma” from “Ek Raaz” (1963), is widely praised for its lyrical beauty and emotional expression. Chitragupta’s contributions were recognized with prestigious awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for “Zabak” (1961) and the BFJA Awards for Best Music Director for “Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo” (1962), highlighting his significant impact on Indian music.
