Music Director Khemchand Prakash

Khemchand Prakash, born on December 12, 1907, in Jaipur, was a well-known music director in the Hindi film industry, especially during the 1940s. He began his music career early, learning from his father, who was a skilled dhrupad singer and Kathak dancer. He began to grow his career when he moved to Mumbai and debuted as a music director with films “Meri Aankhein” and “Ghazi Salauddin” in 1939. Prakash’s work in movies like “Tansen” (1943) and “Ziddi” (1948) built his talent, with “Tansen”. Prakash’s compositions in films like “Ziddi” and “Mahal” (1949) are unforgettable. He played a role in beginning the careers of singers like Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. Songs like “Aayega Aanewala” from “Mahal,” which made Lata Mangeshkar a household name, “Marne ki duaaen kyun maangu” from “Ziddi,” which gave Kishore Kumar his first major break, and other hits from “Tansen” are considered milestones in Hindi film music. Khemchand Prakash passed away at a young age of 42 on August 10, 1950, just months before the release of “Mahal.”
