Music Director Mehdi Hassan

Mehdi Hassan, born on July 18, 1927, in Luna, Rajasthan, was a legendary Pakistani ghazal and playback singer, known as the “Shahenshah-e-Ghazal” (Emperor of Ghazal). His career spanned over four decades, and he is celebrated for his unique baritone voice and innovative musical style, blending classical music with ghazal singing. Hassan’s journey in music began in his family of traditional musicians and he became popular in the Pakistani film industry, contributing to over 300 films. Among his famous songs, “Gulon mein rang bharay, baad-e-naubahar chale” from the film Farangi, stands out as a breakthrough that brought him widespread acclaim. His collaboration with Lata Mangeshkar on the duet “Tera Milna” in the album “Sarhadein” is another highlight of his illustrious career. Hassan’s contributions to music have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Pride of Performance in 1985 and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2010.
