Niladri Kumar, born in 1973, is an acclaimed sitar player and music composer from Kolkata, West Bengal. From a young age, under the guidance of his father, he learned to play the sitar, performing publicly for the first time when he was only six years old. Niladri has collaborated with famous musicians like Zakir Hussain, A.R. Rahman, and John McLaughlin, showcasing his talent in both classical and modern music. He invented the “zitar,” a fusion of the sitar and guitar, aimed at creating a unique sound blending traditional and contemporary music styles. Among his famous tracks are “Chup Chup Ke” from the movie “Bunty Aur Babli,” “Na Jaane Koi” from “Gangster,” and “Naina Thag Lenge” from “Omkara.” Niladri’s work has earned him notable awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2007 and the MTV Immies award for the Best Classical/Fusion Instrumental for his album “If.” He also received awards for his music composition in films, such as the Mirchi Music Awards for Upcoming Music Composer of The Year for the song “Aahista” from “Laila Majnu” and the Rd Burman Award For Upcoming Talent In Film Music at the 64th Filmfare Awards for the same movie​.
