
Singer Abida Parveen
Abida Parveen, born on February 20, 1954, in Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan, is celebrated as one of the most prominent Sufi musicians of our time. Her journey in music started under the tutelage of her father, Ustad Ghulam Haider. Abida’s career took off with her first big hit in 1973, a Sindhi song, that gave her popularizing Sufi and Ghazal music across the globe. Her popular Sufi music, with albums such as “Raqs-e-Bismil” and “Tere Ishq Nachaya” showcasing some of her most beloved work. Among her famous songs are “Yaar ko Humne” from the album “Raqs-e-Bismil”, and “Tere Ishq Nachaya”. Abida Parveen’s contributions to music have been recognized with numerous awards, including Pakistan’s prestigious Pride of Performance in 1984 and the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2005. Her work with Shehzad Roy on the song “Zindagi”, addressing social issues faced by children, showcases her commitment to using her art for societal betterment.
