Arati Ankalikar Tikekar, born on January 27th, 1963 in Karnataka, is a distinguished name in the realm of Indian Classical Music, celebrated for her deep and resonant voice that beautifully marries the intricacies of rhythm and melody. Her musical journey began under the tutelage of Pt. Vasantrao Kulkarni of the Agra-Gwalior gharana, after which she received advanced training from the legendary Gana Saraswati Smt. Kishori Amonkar of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana, and further honing her craft under Pt. Dinkar Kaikini. Her voice has graced numerous albums such as “Tejomay Nadbrahm,” “Raag-Rang,” and films like “Sardari Begum” (1996), “Antarnaad,” “De Dhakka,” and “Samhita”.Arati’s accolades include two National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer for her work in the Konkani film “Anternaad” in 2006 and the Marathi movie “Samhita” in 2013, reflecting her versatility across different genres and languages. Additionally, she has been honored with the Maharashtra State Film Award for “De Dhakka” and the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2020 for her contribution to Hindustani Music – Vocal.
