Singer Aziz Naza

Aziz Naza, born Abdul Aziz Kunji Markar on May 7, 1938, in Bombay Presidency (now Maharashtra, India), was a celebrated Indian playback singer, music director, and one of the most iconic figures in the genre of Qawwali. His illustrious career spanned from 1958 until his untimely demise on October 8, 1992. Naza was particularly renowned for his powerful voice and dynamic performances, which made significant contributions to Indian music. Some of his most famous songs include “Chadhta Sooraj Dheere Dheere” and “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom Sharabi.” He also achieved notable success with tracks like “Hoke Mayoos Tere Dar Se” from the movie Laila Majnu and “Qurbani Qurbani” from Qurbani. Throughout his career, Aziz Naza collaborated with several prominent playback singers and music directors, including Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, and R.D. Burman. His qawwali “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom Sharabi” notably topped the Binaca Geetmala charts for 20 consecutive weeks in 1975, cementing his legacy in the Indian music industry. Aziz Naza received a special award for his work for the Movie Qurbani.
