Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, born on February 4, 1922, was a famous Indian vocalist in the Hindustani classical tradition, known for his mastery in the khayal form of singing, as well as devotional music such as bhajans. Some of his famous works include renditions of “Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma,” a devotional song in Kannada, and performances in classical ragas like “Miya Ki Malhar” and “Multani.” His album “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara,” aimed at national integration, is also highly celebrated. Throughout his illustrious career, he received numerous awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2009.
