Singer Durga Khote

Durga Khote was born on January 14, 1905, in Mumbai, India. She was a pioneering Indian actress known for her work in Hindi and Marathi cinema. Starting her career in the early 1930s, Durga Khote broke barriers as one of the first women from respectable families to enter the Indian film industry. Her career spanned over five decades, during which she appeared in around 200 films. Some of her notable works include Ayodhyecha Raja (1932), which was the first Marathi talkie, and Mughal-e-Azam (1960), where she played the role of Maharani Jodha Bai. Durga Khote was known for her versatility and strong performances, often portraying motherly figures and showcasing her vocal talent in early musical numbers like “Phir Laut Chalo Kudrat Ki” and “Jeet Jyot Tezz Chamak”. She worked with prominent directors and actors of her time, contributing significantly to Indian cinema.
