Lakshmi Shankar, born Lakshmi Sastri on 16 June 1926 in Jamshedpur, Bihar, and passing away on 30 December 2013 in California, USA, was a celebrated Indian singer recognized for her contributions to Hindustani classical music. Initially embarking on a career in dance, health issues led her to transition into music, studying under Ustad Abdul Rehman Khan and later, sitar maestro Ravi Shankar. Khyal, thumri, and bhajan made her a distinguished voice of the Patiala Gharana. Shankar’s collaboration with George Harrison and Ravi Shankar highlighted her global appeal, featuring in the album “Shankar Family & Friends” and the pop single “I Am Missing You.”
