Mehnaz Begum (1958 – 19 January 2013) born in Mahmudabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, was a renowned Pakistani TV, radio, and film playback singer, celebrated particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. She was the daughter of Kajjan Begum, receiving her initial musical training from her mother. Mehnaz’s melodious voice and mastery in genres such as ghazal, thumri, dadra, khayal, drupad, and more made her a favorite among music directors. Her contributions to Pakistani cinema are remembered through hits like “Mera Pyar Tere Jeevan Ke Sang Rahega” from the film Pehchan, “Pyar Ka Waada Aisay Nibhaen” from Aaj Aur Kal, and “Mujhe Dil Se Na Bhulana” from Aina. She was honored with the Nigar Award for Best Female Playback Singer 13 times and received the Lux Style Award’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
