Singer Narayan
Narayan Dutt, born in Bilawas village in Jodhpur state, British India (now Rajasthan), was an Indian playback singer and music director active during the early era of Hindi cinema. He began his career in Mumbai in the late 1940s, lending his voice to vintage films. Narayan Dutt famously performed songs like “Aaj Kisi Se Ho Gayi” (also known as “Aaj Kisi Se Ho Gayi Aankhen Chaar”) for the 1950 Bollywood film Gauna, collaborating with co-singer Shamshad Begum, lyricist Qamar Jalalabadi, and music directors Husnlal Bhagatram. Besides singing, he also transitioned into composing music for Hindi and Rajasthani films, working on projects such as Mordhwaj (1952) and Astik (1956). Narayan Dutt’s early contributions to the film industry remain preserved as classic examples of early playback music before he passed away on June 16, 1988.
