Raakhee Mazumdar Gulzar, born on August 15, 1947, in Ranaghat, West Bengal, is a celebrated Indian actress known for her work in Hindi and Bengali cinema. She began her career in the Bengali film “Badhu Baran” in 1967 and gained fame with her Hindi debut in “Jeevan Mrityu” (1970). Raakhee’s career flourished in the 1970s and 1980s with notable performances in films like “Taaqat,” “Sharmilee,” and “Kabhie Kabhie“. She has worked alongside legendary actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, and Dharmendra. Apart from acting she has lent her voice to “Teri Nindiya Ko Lag Jaye Aag Re” song from movie Taaqat. Her collaboration with music directors like Laxmikant–Pyarelal and lyricists like Anand Bakshi, alongside singing with Kishore Kumar, resulted in the memorable rare track “Teri Nindiya Ko Lag Jaye Aag Re”. Raakhee has received several prestigious awards, including three Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award. Her contribution to Indian cinema is significant, with a legacy of powerful performances and iconic roles.
