“Rajan Mishra, born on October 28, 1951, in Varanasi, India, was a renowned Indian classical vocalist known for his expertise in the Khayal style of singing. He, along with his brother Sajan Mishra, formed the famous Mishra Brothers duo. They were celebrated for their soulful renditions and mastery over ragas, contributing significantly to Hindustani classical music. Rajan Mishra’s career spanned several decades, during which he performed at prestigious music festivals across the globe. Some of his popular performances include renditions of ragas like Yaman, Bhairav, and Todi. Some her popular song such as “Jau Tore Charan Kamal,” “Hey Shiv Shankar Hey Karunakar,” “Saadhre Man Soor Ko Saadhre” and “Aaye Soor Ke Panchhi.” He collaborated with notable music directors and shared the stage with eminent co-singers, enriching the Indian classical music scene. His contributions earned him numerous accolades, including the Padma Bhushan in 2007, one of India’s highest civilian honors. Rajan Mishra’s legacy continues to inspire aspiring musicians and classical music enthusiasts worldwide. Sadly, he passed away on April 25, 2021, but his music lives on.
