Reshma, born in 1947 in a Banjara household in Bikaner, Rajasthan, is celebrated as a phenomenal folk singer who bridged the musical cultures of India and Pakistan. Her family moved to Karachi, Pakistan, following the partition of India in 1947. Despite lacking a formal education and training in music, Reshma’s innate talent shone through from a young age, initially singing at the shrines of Sindh. She was discovered while performing at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, leading to her first recording for Pakistan Radio at just 12 years old with the song “Laal Meri Pat Rakhio”​​. Her powerful voice brought her fame across both nations, leading to iconic songs like “Bhula Do Ranj Ki Baaton” and “Lambi Judai” from the Bollywood movie Hero. Over her illustrious career, Reshma received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2008 and the Pride of Performance Award in 1982 from the government of Pakistan for her contributions to music​​.
