Singer Sabri Brothers

The Sabri Brothers, Ghulam Farid Sabri (born 1930) and Maqbool Ahmed Sabri (born 1945), were pioneering figures in the Sufi music genre, particularly known for their performances of Qawwali. Their journey in music began in Kalyana, India, but they soon moved to Pakistan following the Partition in 1947. Their musical career officially took off with their first recording under the EMI Pakistan label in 1958, showcasing their unique Qawwali performances that blended traditional Islamic music with fervent spiritual lyrics. The Sabri Brothers became international sensations, introducing Qawwali to global audiences through their performances in prestigious venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1975. Some of their most famous works include “Bhar Do Jholi Meri Ya Muhammad” from “Bajrangi Bhaijaan,” “Ham Diwaane Ham Diwaane” from “Indian Babu,” “Ek Mulakat Zaruri Hai Sanam,” “Sirf Tum.” Their contributions to music were recognized with several awards, including the Pride of Performance award bestowed by the President of Pakistan in 1978.
