Amirbai Karnataki (1906 – 3 March 1965), born in Karnataka, was a celebrated actress and playback singer in early Hindi cinema, famously known as Kannada Kokila. Her career peaked by 1947, notably with her role in “Kismet” (1943) where her songs gained widespread popularity. She later transitioned to acting and composing, notably for the film “Shehnaaz” (1948). Her most famous songs include “Jiya Mora Bal Bal Jaye” from “Room No. 9” (1944), “Jogan Banake Piya,” from “Chand Chakori,” “Dheere Dheere Aa Re, Baadal” from “Kismet” (1943), and the Kannada song “Priya madhuvanadali.”
