Music Director Datta Davjekar
Datta Davjekar, born on 15th November 1917, was a famous music director who played a big part in the movie world of Marathi and Hindi films. He grew up in a family that loved music. His father played the tabla in folk and Urdu plays, so Davjekar started loving music when he was very young. He learned to play the tabla and the harmonium, making him want to make his music. His first big chance came with a Marathi movie called “Municipality” in 1941. Davjekar is especially remembered for bringing famous singers like Lata Mangeshkar into the movies. His music in the movie “Aap Ki Sewa Mein” in 1947 was when Lata Mangeshkar first sang in a Hindi movie. He had a special ability to find and help new talent. Besides Lata Mangeshkar, he also helped start the careers of singers like Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, and Anuradha Paudwal. Some of his most popular songs are from movies like “Rangalyaa Raatri Ashyaa,” “Paathlaag,” and “Pahu Re Kitni Vaat.” The last movie he made music for was “Pahaate Punyechi” in 1992. He kept making music until he passed away on 19th September 2007.
