Jolly Mukherjee, also known as the “King of Strings,” was born on February 10, 1956, in Gangtok, Sikkim, India. His career in music spans from 1979 to the present day, making significant contributions to Bollywood music. Jolly began his journey in the music industry as a backing vocalist for commercials before moving on to write music for airline on-flight introductions, including for British Airways. Jolly Mukherjee’s work in the Bollywood music scene is diverse and rich, marked by his collaboration with the Madras Cinematic Orchestra to record the album “Fusebox.” This album included remixes from notable artists like State of Bengal and Badmarsh & Shri. He also provided string arrangements for the song “Verandi” by the Icelandic singer Bjork. Beyond film music, Jolly’s jingles for products such as Lifebuoy, Ponds, Apollo Tyres, and Red Label Tea have left a lasting impact.
