Kumar Sanu, originally named Kedarnath Bhattacharya, was born on October 20, 1957, in Kolkata. He changed his name, inspired by his favorite singer Kishore Kumar, and moved to Mumbai to chase his dream of becoming a singer. His music career grew in the late 1980s, with significant popularity from the film “Aashiqui” in 1990. This film set the stage for his successful career, earning him his first Filmfare Award. Sanu worked with top music directors like Nadeem-Shravan, Anu Malik, and Jatin-Lalit, among others. Some of Sanu’s most famous songs include “Ab Tere Bin” from “Aashiqui,” “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai” from “Saajan,” and “Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen” from “Baazigar.” His contributions to music have been recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious Padma Shri in 2009 by the Government of India and five consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer from 1990 to 1994. His international honor includes being honored with “Kumar Sanu Day” on March 31, 2001, by the Mayor of Dayton, Ohio, USA, marking the first time an Indian singer received such an honor in America.
