Music Director Munni Begum

Munni Begum, born Nadira Begum in 1946 in Murshidabad, now in West Bengal, India, is a celebrated Pakistani ghazal singer. Her music career began in Karachi in the 1970s, marked by the release of her first album of ghazals in 1976. Munni Begum’s talent for choosing ghazals with simple language helped her gain widespread popularity. Despite Urdu not being her mother tongue, her clear and strong voice, along with her skills in playing the harmonium, made her a beloved figure in the music industry. Among her famous songs are “Lazzat-e-Ghum Badha Dijeay,” “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom Sharabi,” and “Ek Bar Muskura Do.” Her contributions to music have not gone unnoticed in 2008, she was honored with the Pride of Performance Award by the Governor of Sindh on behalf of the President of Pakistan. This award is one of the highest civil awards in Pakistan, recognizing her significant influence in the realm of ghazal singing.
