Music Director S. P. Balasubrahmanyam

S. P. Balasubrahmanyam (4 June 1946 – 25 September 2020), fondly known as SPB or Balu was born in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, and grew up in a family deeply rooted in musical and theatrical arts. SPB got a break and started growing in a career in 1966 when he won a singing contest and caught the attention of music directors. His journey in playback singing began with the Telugu film “Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna,” and he quickly became a singer across various Indian film industries, recording songs in multiple languages. SPB sang over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages, earning him a Guinness World Record. Some of his most famous songs include “Tere Mere Beech Mein” from “Ek Duuje Ke Liye,” “Dil Deewana” from “Maine Pyar Kiya,” and “Sri Ramadasu” songs like “Adigadigo Bhadragiri.” SPB’s contributions to music were honored with numerous awards, including the prestigious Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011) from the Government of India. He was also the recipient of the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer multiple times. Sadly, the music world lost this legendary singer on September 25, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19.
