Music Director S.V. Venkatraman

S.V. Venkatraman, born on April 25, 1911, was a renowned music director in the Indian film industry from the late 1930s to the 1970s. He worked extensively in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi films, composing music for over 200 movies. Among his many contributions to film music, some of Venkatraman’s most famous songs include “Bhaja Govindam” and “Vadavaraiyai Mathakki” from the movie Meera, sung by M.S. Subbulakshmi, and “Mudiondrum Moolangalum” which became classics in Indian music history. His notable songs include “Main Haricharanan Ki Daasi“, “Yaad Aave Brindavan Ki“, “Baso Morey Nainan Mein“, “Nanda Bala Mora“, “Hey Murli Mohan Sawre“, “Girdhar Gopala Bala” from “Meera“. Venkatraman’s work not only enriched Indian cinema but also left a lasting legacy on the Indian music industry. Venkatraman’s notable work in the movie Meera won him the prestigious National Film Award for Best Music Direction. Another significant recognition was the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director, which he received for his outstanding contribution to the film Manohara.
