Music Director Sajjad Hussain

Sajjad Hussain, born on June 15, 1917, in Sitamau, Madhya Pradesh, was a most popular and well-known figure in the Indian music industry, particularly known for his work as a music director in Hindi films. He moved to Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1937 with ambitions to make a place in the film industry. Starting with a job at Sohrab Modi’s Minerva Movietone, Hussain with his musical talents got the opportunity to work as an assistant to various music directors. His career started with the film “Gaali” in 1944, where he composed two songs, with the film “Dost” in the same year. Despite facing challenges and controversies, his compositions for movies like “Rustam Sohrab” (1963) gained critical honor, with songs sung by legends such as Suraiyya, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, and Manna Dey. Some of his work includes “Dost” (1944) with the hit song “Badnam Mohabbat Kaun Kare,” sung by Noor Jehan. Another notable song is “Aaj Mere Naseeb Ne Mujhko Rula Rula Diya” from “Hulchul” (1951) by Lata Mangeshkar. Another work includes “Yeh Hawa Yeh Raat Yeh Chandni” from “Sangdil” (1952), sung by Talat Mahmood.
