Music Director Salim Merchant

Salim Merchant was born on March 3, 1975, in Bhuj, Gujarat, India. He forms half of the famous composer duo Salim-Sulaiman with his brother Sulaiman Merchant. Salim started his musical journey at a young age and learned piano in Mumbai. Along with his brother, he began his career by composing music for TV shows and, eventually, for movies. Their first major Bollywood film as music directors was “Bhoot” (2003), which gained them considerable attention. Some of the most popular songs directed by Salim Merchant include “Shukran Allah” from the movie “Kurbaan” (2009), “Ainvayi Ainvayi” from “Band Baaja Baaraat” (2010), and “Chak De India” from the movie of the same name (2007). Salim has won several awards for his music direction; notable among them are the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for his work in “Kurbaan” and the Best Music Director award for “Band Baaja Baaraat.” His song “Chak De India” has become an anthem of sorts associated with Indian sports, particularly hockey, showcasing his knack for creating impactful music.
