Music Director Shiv Dayal Batish

Shiv Dayal Batish was born on December 14, 1914, in Patiala, India. He started his music career in 1936 as a singer and composer for Bollywood films. His most notable early work was for the movie “Dassi” in 1944 where he both composed music and sang. He moved to the USA in 1970 and continued to teach and compose music, impacting many with his skills. Some of Shiv Dayal Batish’s famous compositions include “Khamosh Nigaahen” from the movie “Dassi” (1944),”Nai Zindagi Naya Jeevan,” the theme for the BBC show “Apna Hi Ghar Samajhiye” and “Jai Mahadeva” from his album “Raga Todi.”Shiv Dayal Batish won several awards throughout his career, including Best Music Director from the movie “Bahu Beti.” He was also honored for his educational contributions through the Batish Institute of Indian Music and Fine Arts, which he founded in Santa Cruz, California, to teach Indian classical music.
