Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, born on March 3, 1931, in Uttar Pradesh, India, was a celebrated figure in Hindustani classical music. Coming from a family deeply rooted in musical tradition, his journey in music began at a very young age under the guidance of his father and other eminent musicians. Throughout his career, he was honored with prestigious awards including the Padma Shri in 1991, Padma Bhushan in 2006, and Padma Vibhushan in 2018, acknowledging his contributions to Indian classical music. Khan’s talent also extended to the film industry, where he lent his voice to several films and worked as a music director. Notably, one of his works includes his directed music for the film “Aagaman” in 1988. Some of his famous songs include “Sajna Kahe Nahi Aaye” from “Badnam Basti,” and his contributions to the critically honored “Umrao Jaan,” where he performed a Raagmala, among others.
