Singer Chand Wirk
Chand Burke (alternatively credited as Chand Wirk or Chand Burque), born on February 2, 1932, in the Punjab Province of British India (now Pakistan), was a talented Indian character actress known for her appearances in Hindi and Punjabi cinema. She began her film career in Lahore before migrating to Mumbai after the Partition of India, which heavily impacted her profession. Over the years, she delivered notable performances in films, most famously as the tormenting aunt in Raj Kapoor’s award-winning film “Boot Polish” (1954). While primarily a screen actress and dancer known as the “Dancing Lily of the Punjab,” she is famously credited alongside Mohammed Rafi on the 1949 duet track “Chanda Ki God Mein” from the film Jeevan Saathi. Her collaboration with veteran actors and filmmakers solidifies her legacy as a memorable contributor to early Indian cinema.
