Singer Raj Kapoor

Raj Kapoor, born on December 14, 1924, in Peshawar, British India (now Pakistan), was a legendary Indian actor, producer, and director, known as “The Showman” of Bollywood. He hailed from a prominent film family, being the son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor made his acting debut at the age of 10 in the film “Inquilab” and later gained fame with his breakthrough role in “Neel Kamal” (1947). He was also uniquely credited as a performer on songs like “O Duniya Ke Rehne Valo” and “Maine To Nahi Pee.” He founded R.K. Films and directed and starred in classics like “Awaara” (1951), “Shree 420” (1955), and “Sangam” (1964). His films often featured memorable music composed by Shankar-Jaikishan, with lyrics by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. Kapoor’s on-screen chemistry with actresses like Nargis and Vyjayanthimala was iconic. He received numerous awards, including the Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
