Krishna Kalle, born on December 18, 1940, in Karwar, Karnataka, was a distinguished Indian playback singer whose voice graced the soundtracks of Marathi, Hindi, and Kannada films. Her musical journey began early when she started singing at the age of 16 on All India Radio in Kanpur. Kalle’s career took a significant turn when she moved to Mumbai, where she was introduced to the music industry by Arun Date and began recording songs that would leave a lasting impression on the Indian music scene. Throughout her illustrious career, Krishna Kalle sang approximately 200 songs for Bollywood, 100 Marathi movie songs, and even ventured into Kannada cinema with notable tracks in movies like “Kalpavruksha”. Some of her famous Hindi songs include “Ajab Teri Karigari Re Kartar” from the film “Dus Lakh,” “Sochta Hoon Ke Tumhe Maine” from “Raaz,” and “Chakkar Chalaye Ghanchakkar” from “Do Dooni Char“. Her contributions to music were recognized with several awards, notably the Maharashtra government’s Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2014, marking her profound impact on the industry.
