Nazia Hassan, born on April 3, 1965, in Karachi, Pakistan, and passing away on August 13, 2000, in London, England, was a pioneering figure in South Asian pop music. Known as the “Queen of South Asian Pop,” she revolutionized the music scene with her debut at just 15, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for “Aap Jaisa Koi” from the film “Qurbani.” Her albums, including “Disco Deewane,” “Boom Boom,” and “Young Tarang,” not only achieved widespread acclaim in Pakistan and India but also charted internationally, making her the first Pakistani singer to make it to the British charts. Hassan’s legacy is further embellished by her receipt of Pakistan’s Pride of Performance award posthumously in 2002, recognizing her contribution to the arts.
