Pandit Dattatreya Vishnu Paluskar, born on May 28, 1921, in Nasik, Maharashtra, was a renowned Indian classical vocalist and a prominent figure in Hindustani classical music. He was the son of the legendary musician Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, who founded the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. Dattatreya Paluskar carried forward his father’s legacy and became a celebrated singer known for his soulful renditions and mastery over ragas. He gained immense popularity for his playback singing in Bollywood, especially for the legendary song “Aaj Gawat Man Mero Jhoomke” in the film Baiju Bawra (1952). His collaboration with music director Naushad Ali and co-singer Ustad Amir Khan brought him widespread acclaim.
