C. Ramchandra, born Ramchandra Narhar Chitalkar on January 12, 1918, was an iconic figure in Bollywood music, renowned for his compositions that often merged Indian classical music with Western musical styles. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to film music, particularly in Hindi cinema, and was associated with several landmark films and memorable songs. Notably, his works include classics like “Dekho Dekho Gadbad Ghotala” from “Sangram,” “Duaa Dene Waalo Hame Do,” and “Laga Hai Kuch Aisa Nishana” from “Sipahiya.” Although he was a revered composer, he surprisingly never won a Filmfare Award, despite nominations for his compositions in the films “Azaad” (1955) and “Aasha” (1957)​. Ramchandra’s musical journey also extended to acting and production, with notable involvements in Marathi cinema as well. He penned his autobiography, “The Symphony of My Life,” detailing his experiences in the music industry. His death on January 5, 1982, marked the end of an era in Indian music but his legacy continues to influence many.
