Sulochana Mahadev Kadam, known affectionately as Sulochana Chavan, was born on March 13, 1933, in Bombay, and passed away on December 10, 2022. She was a celebrated figure in the Marathi music industry, renowned for her mastery of the traditional Lavani genre. Sulochana began her singing career at the tender age of 11 and became a symbol of Marathi cultural heritage. Her most notable lavanis include “Panchhi Gulshan Chhod Chale” from the film Basera (1949), and “Khushiya Manao Aaj” from Raja Harishchandra (1952). She also lent her voice to Hindi cinema, enriching films with songs like “Aji Pyaar Se Munh Na Modna” from Bachke Rahna (1949)​. She received the prestigious Padma Shri in 2022, recognizing her lifetime of dedication to Marathi folk music. Additionally, she was awarded the Lata Mangeshkar Award in 2011 for her influence and excellence in the field of music.
