Swarnalatha, born on 29 April 1973 in Kerala, and passing on 12 September 2010, was a well-known Indian playback singer with a prolific career from 1987 to 2010. She recorded over 10,000 songs across languages including Tamil and Malayalam, earning the title “Queen of Tones.” Notable works include “Porale Ponnuthayi” from “Karuththamma,” “Povomma Oorkolam” from “Chinna Thambi,” and “Evano Oruvan” from “Alaipayuthey.” Swarnalatha was the first female playback singer to win a National Award under A.R. Rahman’s music direction for “Porale Ponnuthayi”.
