Shaukat Ali (3 May 1944 – 2 April 2021), well known and popular for his folk and playback singing, was born in Malakwal, Punjab, British India, and begin on his musical journey during his college years with encouragement from his brother Inayat Ali Khan. He made his singing debut in the Punjabi film “Tees Maar Khan” (1963) and got popularity of ghazals and Punjabi folk songs, with notable tracks including “Saif-ul-Malook–Awwal Hamd Sana-e-Elahi” from the film “Chan Varyam” (1981), “Sathio Mujahido, Jaag Uthha Hai Sara Watan” from “Mujahid” (1965), and “Mein Puttar Pakistan Da” from “Athra Puttar” (1981). His notable song include “Jaan“. Ali’s contribution to music was recognized with prestigious honour such as the Pride of Performance Award in 1990 by the President of Pakistan, and the Pride of Punjab Award by the Pakistan Institute of Language, Art and Culture (PILAC)​.
