Vasanti (born Vasanti Vinayakrao Ghorpade), born on March 26, 1924, in Kolhapur, India, was a celebrated Indian playback singer and child actress known for her melodious voice and significant contributions to the pre-independence era of Hindi and Marathi cinema in the 1930s and 1940s. Discovered by the legendary Prabhat Film Company, she began her singing and acting career in the mid-1930s. Vasanti’s career took off when she lent her voice to prominent tracks under the guidance of early music directors like Keshavrao Bhole and Gyan Dutt. Her soulful renditions were often paired with legendary singing stars of that era such as Shanta Apte. Some of her popular songs include “Saawan Jhoola Jhool Ke Nikla” from the movie Duniya Na Mane (1937) and “Akeli Na Jaiyo Ho” from Musafir (1940), which remain timeless classics.
