Shankar Singh Ram Singh Raghuvanshi, born on October 15, 1922, in Hyderabad, was an Indian music composer and one half of the legendary duo Shankar–Jaikishan. He began his musical journey by learning the tabla under Baba Nasir Khansahib and later worked with composer Khawaja Khurshid Anwar. Shankar’s collaboration with Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal led to numerous classic Bollywood soundtracks in the 1950s and 1960s. One of their memorable songs is “Awara Hoon” from the film Awaara (1951).
