Hindi Rakshak (1996)

Rakshak is a 1996 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Ashok Honda. The movie stars Suniel Shetty as ASP Raj Sinha, Karisma Kapoor as Suman Sinha, Sonali Bendre as Dr. Pooja Malhotra, and Raghuvaran as Raghavan, with Alok Nath, Aruna Irani, and Raveena Tandon in supporting roles. The film is a remake of the Tamil film “Honest Raj” and was released on November 29, 1996. The plot revolves around Raj Sinha, an IPS officer, who faces a major conflict when he discovers that his childhood friend Raghu, now a mafia boss, is involved in printing fake currency. The film’s story follows Raj’s journey to bring justice and the personal losses he endures in the process, including the murder of his mother and wife by Raghu’s goons. Dr. Pooja Malhotra helps Raj recover and exact his revenge.

The film’s music, composed by Anand–Milind, became quite popular, particularly the songs “Shehar Ki Ladki” and “Sundara Sundara.” The soundtrack also features singers like Abhijeet, Chandana Dixit, Vinod Rathod, Sapna Mukherjee, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Udit Narayan, Poornima, Kumar Sanu, and Alka Yagnik. The song “Shehar Ki Ladki” was later recreated for the film “Khandaani Shafakhana.” Choreographers Chinni Prakash and Rekha Prakash won the Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for “Shehar Ki Ladki” at the Filmfare Awards 1997. The film grossed ₹11.2 crore at the box office and was considered an average grosser.
