Alka Yagnik, born on March 20, 1966, is a Indian playback singer primarily known for her work in Hindi cinema. Beginning her career at the tender age of six by singing bhajans for Akashvani (All India Radio) in Kolkata, Yagnik made her film debut with a song for the movie “Payal Ki Jhankaar” in 1980. However, it was the 1988 blockbuster “Tezaab” and its hit song “Ek Do Teen” that gave a popularity, earning her the first of many Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer. Yagnik’s voice has graced over 2,486 Hindi songs across 1,114 films, making her one of the most prolific singers in Bollywood. Her ability to sing in over twenty-five languages, including Assamese, Bengali, and Tamil, showcases her versatility and wide appeal​. Among her most celebrated songs are “Taal Se Taal” from the movie “Taal,” “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” from the film of the same name, and “Agar Tum Saath Ho” from “Tamasha.” Her contribution to Indian music has been recognized with numerous awards, including seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer, a title she shares with the legendary Asha Bhosle. Notably, Yagnik won the International Indian Film Academy Award for “Taal Se Taal” and “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.”
