Music Director Bappi Lahiri

Bappi Lahiri, born on 27 November 1952, was a famous music director who made many people dance to his tunes. He moved to Mumbai when he was only 19 years old and soon got to make music for movies. He became popular with his first Bengali film composition “Daadu” (1974), where the legendary Lata Mangeshkar sang and gave her voice to his music. Lahiri’s career took a significant turn with the Hindi film “Zakhmee” (1975), which made his entry as a notable music director. His work in “Chalte Chalte” (1976) earned him nationwide fame, showcasing his talent in mixing Indian music with unique sounds. Among his famous songs are “Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja” from “Disco Dancer” (1982), a track that transcended Indian borders, and “Tamma Tamma Loge” from “Thanedaar” (1990), which remains a favorite for dance lovers. Another gem, “I Am A Disco Dancer,” also from “Disco Dancer,” became an anthem for disco music in India. His achievements include a Guinness World Record in 1986 for recording over 180 songs in 33 films in a single year and a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, showcasing his prolific contribution to Indian cinema. He was honored with Best Music Director in the Filmfare Awards (1985) for Sharaabi.
