Music Director Chitra Singh (Chitra Dutta)

Chitra Singh was born on April 11, 1940, in Calcutta, and became a well-known Ghazal singer in India. Alongside her husband, Jagjit Singh, Chitra helped make the Ghazal very popular among Indians during the 1970s and ’80s. Their duets and Chitra’s soulful voice won many hearts. Her career spanned from 1970 to 1990, after which she retired from public performance following personal tragedies. Some of her most celebrated songs include “Tum Ko Dekha To Yeh Khayal Aaya” from the movie “Saath Saath” and “Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar” from the same film. Another famous track, “Jab Samne Tum Aa Jate Ho,” is one of her top hits performed with Jagjit Singh. Chitra received numerous honors with Jagjit, including the “Bengal Film Journalists” association Award for their album, “The Unforgettables.” They were also awarded the Ghalib Academy Award for their contribution to Ghazal music.
