Emani Sankara Sastry was a great Veena player and famous in Carnatic music. He was born on September 23, 1922, in Draksharamam, Andhra Pradesh, India in a family that loved music a lot. He traveled all over India to play music and took part in big music festivals, showing his skill and devotion to traditional music. Sastry’s work in the film industry as a music director for more than a decade at Gemini Studios introduced novel music compositions to hit films like “Bahut Din Huwe” and “Mr. Sampat.”Among his notable awards are the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1973 and the Padma Shri. His playing of the raga Sankarabharanam on the Veena won him an international award in 1973, showing his influence on music around the world.
