Jagjit Singh, born on February 8, 1941, in Rajasthan, India, was a well-known Indian composer, singer, and music director, best known for his contributions to the Ghazal genre. Some of his well-loved songs are from the movies like “Prem Geet” (1981), “Arth” (1982), and “Saath Saath” (1982). Singh’s talent was not only recognized in India but also internationally, earning him accolades such as the Padma Bhushan in 2003. Among his famous songs are “Hontho se chhoo lo tum” from “Prem Geet,” “Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho” from “Arth,” and “Tum Ko Dekha To Yeh Khayal Aaya” from “Saath Saath.” His contribution to music and culture was further honored with two postal stamps released by the Indian government in 2014.
