Kanu Roy was a famous Indian musician known for his contributions to Hindi and Bengali movie songs from 1943 to 1983. Born on December 9, 1912, in Kolkata, West Bengal, he initially struggled after moving to Mumbai. He took on minor acting roles and seized any opportunity to compose music. Despite these challenges, his perseverance led to recognition for his exceptional music in films directed by Basu Bhattacharya and for the memorable songs performed by Geeta Dutt. Notable among his works are “Aaj ki Kaali Ghata” and “Uski Kahani” from the 1966 film “Uski Kahani,” as well as “Koi Chupke Se Aake,” “Mera Dil Jo Mera Hota,” and “Meri Jaan Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho” from the 1971 movie “Anubhav.” Additionally, he composed two acclaimed songs for Manna Dey in “Anubhav” – “Phir Koi Phool Khila” and in “Avishkaar” – “Hansne Ki Chaah Ne Kitna Mujhe Rulaya Hai.” Another hit, “Machal Ke Jab Bhi Aankhon Mein” by Bhupinder Singh from the 1979 movie “Griha Pravesh,” also stands out in his career.
