Kishore Kumar, born Abhas Kumar Ganguly on August 4, 1929, in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, was a well-known figure in Indian cinema, for his contribution as a playback singer, actor, and music director. Besides his playback singing, Kumar also made notable contributions to Indian cinema as an actor in numerous successful films from the 1950s to the 1960s. Some of his famous songs include “Roop Tera Mastana” from Aradhana, “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si” in “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi“, and “Mere Samne Wali Khidki Mein” from “Padosan“. His contributions were recognized with numerous awards, including 8 Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer. Kumar was honored with the Lata Mangeshkar Award by the Madhya Pradesh government in 1985, acknowledging his unparalleled contribution to Indian music.
